Disciplinary Investigations – Attorney Yvette Heintzelman

Attorney Yvette Heintzelman from Clark Baird Smith will provide a review of the mechanics of conducting a disciplinary investigation, including internal policies and procedure, legal requirements of the Peace Officers Disciplinary Act, Weingarten, Garrity and Brady. She will discuss various options to gather evidence depending on the issues in question e.g. using social media. Finally there will be a discussion on whether the #MeToo movement has impacted police operations / internal investigations and what steps Command Staff should consider in response.
